Westbound lanes of I-435 reopen in south Kansas City after police pursuit, shooting

Westbound Interstate 435 near Holmes Road reopened late Friday afternoon after a police pursuit and a shooting.Kansas City police said that at about 1:20 p.m., officers were called to the area of Sixth Street and Hardesty Avenue on a reported domestic disturbance involving an assault with a weapon.When officers arrived, police said they talked to the victim. Authorities said the suspect then returned to the scene, and fled from officers. Based on the initial assault with a weapon, and probability that the suspect could be armed, a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle was pursued south on Highway 71 and west on I-435. Police said tactical officers in pursuit were able to successfully utilize a TVI which disabled the vehicle near I-435 and Holmes Road. Investigators said that at that point, the suspect exited the vehicle with a gun and shot himself. The man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two other people in the vehicle were taken into custody for questioning. Police said no officers discharged their weapons and no citizens were hurt during the pursuit.
