Missouri’s DHSS approves administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to kids 12 to 15
DHSS said it continues to enroll pediatricians into state’s COVID-19 vaccine program so they can order vaccines
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has signed off on administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 to 15.The state health department’s approval Wednesday night follows the recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration that the Pfizer vaccine be made available to children in that specific age group. Health officials said the vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19. The Pfizer vaccine is administered in two doses, at least three weeks apart, for all eligible individuals. COVID-19 vaccinations for those 12 years and older are available from any provider offering the Pfizer vaccine. DHSS said it continues to enroll pediatricians into state’s COVID-19 vaccine program so they can order COVID-19 vaccines and administer them to their patients. Additionally, schools may consider partnering with a local public health agency or other provider to set up vaccination clinics for students.
