Liberty North senior’s comedy film ‘The Grooves’ premieres at theater


A Liberty North senior spent his final year of high school making a movie. It’s a comedy that’s getting a lot of buzz.”I do. I want to be a filmmaker,” Jack Kankiewicz said.It’s a good plan, but you have to have a good script.”It’s about a 1970s rock band getting back together,” Kankiewicz said. “It features all actors that I’m friends with.”Movies aren’t cheap.”I was able to raise some money to have a budget behind making the songs,”It took Kankiewicz and his friends nearly a year and a half to make the comedy “The Grooves.” On Monday night, the Liberty B&B Theatre held its premiere. Kankiewicz said he learned something during the process.”Reassurance that this is possible. Just a camera and some friends and it can, you know, blossom into something way bigger than you ever thought it would be,” Kankiewicz said.He said he’s hoping his film will be picked up by a streaming service.”I would love to put it on Amazon Prime, maybe get some people to see it, market it a little bit. I wouldn’t mind that,” Kankiewicz said.Kankiewicz heads off to Mizzou next year to study film. He said this film will be tough for him beat. He said that he even wrote the soundtrack.”It’s more than everything I wanted it to be,” Kankiewicz said.He said fell in love with movie-making at just 5 years old and he hopes to make it a life-long career.
