I DO FEEL PROGRESS EVERY DAY THIS WEEK MAYOR QUENTIN LUCAS AND MEMBERS OF THE CASEY HOMELESS UNION HAVE BEEN MEETING IN SEARCH OF A COMPROMISE ON. HELP THE DOZENS OF HOMELESS LIVING ON CITY HALL LONG. LET’S ACTUALLY TRY TO MAKE SURE WE’RE FIXING THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM IN A CLOSED-DOOR MEETING WEDNESDAY MAYOR LUCAS AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS OFFERED WAYS THE CITY COULD HELP INCLUDING HOUSING FOR PEOPLE WITH LOWER NO INCOME 90 DAYS OF HOTEL SPACE AND JOBS PROGRAMS ACROSS THE CITY FOR THOSE WHO FOR WHATEVER REASON AREN’T COMFORTABLE THAN A SHELTER ENVIRONMENT AND THOSE WHO WANT ACCESS TO THINGS LIKE RUNNING WATER A PLACE TO SLEEP SAFETY ALL SECURITY THAT IS A PART OF THAT. I’M NOT CLAIMING VICTORY BECAUSE AIN’T NOTHING HAPPENED YET MEMBERS WITH UNION SAY THEY’RE HAPPY WITH THE PROGRESS BUT FEEL REAL ACTION BY THE CITY IS STILL NEEDED THIS MOVEMENT THAT WAS NOT HAPPENING BEFORE NOW AND MOVEMENT. At a closed door meeting Wednesday, Lucas and other city officials offered ways the city could help including housing for people with low or no income, 90 days of hotel space, and jobs programs across the city.”For those who, for whatever reason aren’t comfortable in a shelter environment, and want access to running water, a place to sleep, safety, and all of the security that is a part of that,” said Lucas. “I’m not claiming victory, cause ain’t nothing happened yet,” said Qadhafi, a leader with KC Homeless Union.
