A horse named after Breonna Taylor made it to the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby week.”Breonna” won a six-furlong race under jockey Corey Lanerie and was trained by Steve Margolis. The horse ran in the fourth race Thursday and is owned by JS Stables, LLC.The operation is owned by attorney Sam Aguiar and his wife. Aguiar is part of the team of attorneys who have been working with Taylor’s family since last year’s deadly shooting. Aguiar posted on his Facebook page that “it was awesome” seeing “Breonna” win. His wife said in a post, “Any time we win a horse race is exciting, but it takes it to a new level when you name your horse Breonna in honor of #BreonnaTaylor, the horse wins at Churchill Downs on Derby week and you hear so many people #SayHerName.”Video from Churchill Downs and Twin Spires shows “Breonna” and the other horses running nearly neck-and-neck over a muddy racetrack. Then at the top of the stretch, “Breonna” crossed back over the rail and pushed ahead “My Girl Lexi.”And then toward the finish, the announcer can be heard saying, “And it is Breonna bounding home.”Aguiar represented the Taylor family in its lawsuit against the Louisville Metro Police Department. LMPD officers raided Taylor’s home on March 13, 2020. They used a battering ram to knock down the door. The FBI is still conducting a civil rights probe of the shooting, and just this week, the U.S. Department of Justice said it would be investigating LMPD.
